This weekend I have spent far too much time trying to get my mac mini to display on my HDTV.
I have a Philips 32inch HD ready tv which works fine when I plug it into my MacBook Pro. Just plug it in and there it is.
When I plug the mini in there is no picture and no display settings other than the default 640 up to 1024.
If I reboot with the HDMI cable pluged in I get an inital boot screen but then it will go black and I am unable to get anything. I can sometimes get in via remote desktop but the screen is black, ssh is fine but sometimes slow. If I then plug in the normal TV output stuff I also get nothing (untill I reboot). I can also view everything on the mini if I use a normal TV output (composite phonos) but only an SD resolutions....
It's so frustrating as I can see it working when it first boots, and I can get it working with my laptop, so the problem must be something it does when it starts to load OS X. I have also tried DisplayConfigX and SwitchResX but neither offer much help if your computer can't detect the monitor...
Anyone out there had this problem and sorted it? there must be someone, or something stupd I am doing....
Update: After chatting with the creator of SwitchResX we managed to lock it down to the mini not detecting the monitor but instead perhaps just the cable. So I plan to try with another cabel or TV to see if it can get anywhere.
Update 2: Last night I tried another (diffrent model) mac mini and the basterd worked. I didn't need to do anything it just came up when booting and stayed on. So it seems that my Philips FlatTV isn't seen by my mini's graphics card. I have also read other people saying can't get their mini to work with a philips TV ( Daniel Gotts ).
