My Xbox 360 cd drive died

I’m not feeling too well at the moment, so I was settling down to some GRAW2 online when a god awful noise start coming from somewhere in the room. Initially I thought it was the TV spitting out some interference, but then I noticed it was coming from my Xbox 360.
It honestly sounded like an angel grinder, so I quickly turned it off, only to find that it now won’t read any disks, and makes very loud clunking noises when I put one in. I have tried turning it on it’s side, different disks reboots… everything I can think of but with no joy.
So now I am on hold trying to contact the Xbox 360 customer support line… joy. Shoddy shoddy Microsoft…. especially when I have only had it about 3 months and played on it a relatively small amount of times.
UPDATE:
So I finally got through to customer support and they are sending me some stickers…. for UPS to send it in. I then have to arrange a pick up and can expect to get it back in 3 weeks!!!!
I remember I had a similar problem with my launch PS2 (you can expect the odd problem from launch machines) and Sony sent a new one to my house for me to swap with my old one, no waiting 3 weeks for repair! I also had a problem with an Apple battery which they just sent me a new one for… I didn’t even have to send the old one back… poor service really for such a big company like Microsoft (not even an apology over the phone mite I add!).

Am i aloud to join the broken disk drive thing cuz same happond to me well gutted only halo 3 didn’t work then got angry
thats just happened 2 me, it started happening after i kicked my xbox over……the xbox has completely broke my GHWT disc.
Wow, this is alot of complaints, although im sure microsoft will not do anything about it still. >:-(
Mine makes 2 grinding noises as I put it in, but my console is 2 years old, hope they still repair for free :-/
Try this, put a game in, after the first grinding noise, hit the console right where the tray is on the top until it dosent make the second noise, try this a few times, it loads sometimes, just while you wait for your shipping labels :) . But yeah this is still a pisstake. :-/
sorry I must rephrase that, my WARRANTY is 2 years old, from the original one I bought… it has been repaired once, sent a refurbed console once and last time (one i have now) they say is brand new! (but has broke after about 3 months)
ya my disk try shit out on me to and it also doesnt wanna open up any more i rarely with and i just bought it two months ago and this happened when i bought a new game and tried to play it and got a E74 error
Mine just died. There was an electrical burning smell then it couldn’t read the disc. I was able to eject the disc, but now it won’t open period.
i just bought a red edition xbox 360 elite and when i set it up the disc tray gets stuck and the resident evil game you get with it doesn’t even work in the console, i put it in and i can hear it tryin to read it, when it does manage to get something it says on the dashboard to play dvd when i press a on the controller it takes a while to load then comes up with “to play this disc you need to put it in a xbox 360″, this was a 360 and game st8 out of the box i havn’t even done 10 minutes of gaming on it
me xbox doesn’t read, but it doesn’t make grinding noises, so i dunno wats wrong with it?????????!?
I got this link about halfway down the page and it solved the problem. I had the loud noises/open tray/discs not being read problem. There’s a magnet that holds the disc in place that gets loose and attaches to casing of the disc drive. If you take the box/disc drive apart you can put the magnet back in place (I superglued it there) and my box runs fine now. This video explains it well

wow so many people with this problem same as me, i reckon xbox send a virus out or something because its wierd how suddenly every one is getting this problem
well im not paying MS im just gonna get a ps3 very sad moment i know
