Apollo – We have lift off

First off, excuse the title, just seemed like I had to do it before Adobe started plastering the web with puns along the same lines…
So anyway in one small step for me but one giant… ok ok I’ll start again…
Today whilst eating my chili (turned out to be spag boll, which doesn’t really go with rice… need to start labeling my frozen left overs) I downloaded the Apollo add on for flex builder and knocked up a nice simple application, that should (I say should because my first flex app doesn’t) run on any platform that the Apollo runtime is made for.
It took about 1 minute (30 if Simon is reading… it’s not like Dreamweaver) and I think it will pave the way for application development in the future… move over Java, your time has come.
Oh and I also had to quash Tom’s claims that
So with out further adoooooo…..
(joking they are both the same file ;)

My title was better.
I spent last week championing the Apollo cause at FMG, I think all the movers and shakers were impressed. I like the way that Adobe’s Digital Edition software is essentially an Apollo app already!
You didm’t try my app did you…
i have no words…
It really is that good isn’t it ;)
I knew it’d be that… I just knew it! I even said “I’ve already seen a dancing banana…”
Been playing around with Apollo SDK today… not as impressed as I thought I would be – there was no “wow – I’ve got a fully working rich text editor (with spell check) with out writing any code” moment like there was with XCode… maybe I’ll wait for the beta before I pass any more comment!
Hemmm all very interesting. As a non technical technical person. I cant say for sure why but a way to develop applications that use and can connect easily with the web without the geeky rough edges of Java is something a little special! Cant wait to see where this all goes! Oh and for those Java lovers….. “would you like a coffee!”
I guess it will end with the ease of development versus the level of flexibility. Whilst a strong frame work will let you develop quickly you may be out of your depth if you are required to tweak things…
