Chino - The bitter fruit drink

I went to the local delicatessen in Angel today to get a coke but saw this novilty foreign drink. After paying top inport doller for it, you expect to get someting drinkable.

Unfortunatly it tasted disgusting and had an even worce after taste.

After a quick look on google we found that it was made out of Chinotto:

The Chinotto (pronounced kiˈnÉ”tË?o) is a small bitter citrus fruit from the chinotto, or "myrtle-leaved orange" tree.

Also according to wikipedia the drink is said to taste similar to naturally flavoured cola or Campari, with a distinctive bitterness. Well if bitter coke tastes like crap then I agree!

Be warned children, stay away from Chino. Unless you like Dandelion and burdock and other rubbish like that!

    you americans have no culture. Chino is a beautiful drink and very popular in Europe. Maybe the fact that us Europeans don't like deep fried hotdogs wrapped in a pancake says something....

    I like deep fried hotdogs wrapped in pancakes, and I also like Chino. Chino seems to be an especially nice way to wash down a prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich. We here in the U.S. are way too accustomed to sweet drinks. Anything with a bitter flavor is usually turned away in disgust.

    HAHA got that drink while I was away skiing. Most disgusting thing ever. HAHA Legendary. I dunno what that pixelbox is on about cos it tastes like a %$&£. Oh by the way I'm from england and its the worst thing i ever tasted.

    I've never had Chino, but I come from a Sicilian family, and I have had Sanbitter (which is a non-alcholic bitter, also made by Nestle/San Pellegrino) and am a big fan. I actually just drank a bottle about half an hour ago. Evidently it's a very different drink though - more of a sweetish drink, with a bitter aftertaste, as opposed to Chino that has a sweet and bitter taste with little aftertaste.

    I just bought it randomly and I found it to be not too bad. I guess its an acquired taste, but I seem to like it more and more.

    I bought it at random from the supermarket here on holiday in Italy - my wife hates it but I LOVE it and bought two bottles to take home to the Netherlands. Why oh why don't we have it at home !! Seems there's a lot of different opinions with this drink! Funny!

    I am in Milan from US on a business trip. Waiting for the Metro this AM, I wanted to get a water, but the machine gave me a chino. I almost gave it away to someone else because I am on a low-carb diet, and not knowing much Italian, was afraid my offer would be misunderstood and possibly mistaken for harrassment. So I decided to drink it myself as I hadn't had any breakfast. It was definitely different, but it was no more bitter than a RedBull which is very popular in the states. I finished the can and found myself craving more, possibly just a side effect of the sudden rush of sugar into my otherwise low-carb bloodstream. I actually stumbled upon this discussion while looking for info on its carb-content so I know whether or not I can indulge again. I couldn't see it doing well in the US, but then again, I couldn't see Fresca doing well there either, but it does. Unless you are completely closed-minded to new things, give it a try!
